Strait of Hormuz: #6 Top 10 Hot Searches (12/28/11)

Well, Iran is at it again. In response to possibilities of new international sanctions being imposed upon Iran due to its pursuit of a nuclear program, its top officials are threatening to close the Persian Gulf to oil tanker traffic. The Strait of Hormuz is the only sea passage that gives the Persian Gulf access to the open ocean to transport 13 tankers carrying 15.5 million barrels of crude oil per day, and Iran is on the north coast of this ever so important strait. They claim that “Closing the Strait of Hormuz…will be easier than drinking a glass of water.”

But fear not, people, this is not the first time Iran has ever spat this type of b.s., especially when it comes to the strait. U.S. Fifth fleet issued a statement that “any disruption will not be tolerated.” But this does not mean war, guys! It’s just a bunch of threats back and forth, which, of course, is not helping the stability issues in that region, so we must definitely keep our eyes and ears opened to this issue.
